SOX and intranets — legal departments need to stay take on another task

Sarbanes Oxley has given legal departments reason to view corporate intranets with more care. Internal web sites can no longer be considered informal repositories for unstructured information that doesn’t need to be looked at.

According to a posting last year (Sept. 12, 2004) legal departments need to review their company’s intranets and establish corporate-wide rules for content publishing, ownership, and content lifecycle management. Similarly, records management groups, prodded by the same statute, should establish a practice for archiving intranet content and querying business managers about content that can be removed.
