LawBidding: no-cost site for law departments to post questions about legal issues and receive proposals

Nick Cronin, an attorney who works in-house at a Wisconsin corporation, founded Law Bidding early this year.

He wrote me and explained that “LawBidding.com lets businesses (and individuals) post legal issues and then allows attorneys who have registered with the site to search cases and place bids on the work. The website is totally free for all users.”

Attorneys can offer to help on a flat, hourly or contingent basis. When I reviewed the site, it had mostly legal issues for individuals (DUIs, divorce, custody, personal injury), but the capability has potential for in-house counsel. It is like E-Lance for lawyers.

  1. We mucked around with lawbidding.com and agree with you on the potential but the interface needs a lot of work, especially to attract queries (and bids) for larger or more complicated projects. Perhaps lawbidding.com should consider a premium service?
There are better auction systems, too–such as a “reverse” (or Dutch) auction and semi-blind bidding, where the name of the bidder and the bid are separated when posted–i.e., it is the bid amounts that are shown and not each bidder.
The GUI also limits attorneys to only three billing options rather than providing for some creativity (or at least more categories).
I am also surprised that a lawyer did not make immediately available the actual terms of service–i.e., the full text popping up to enable the terms to be read.
However, it looks like a good idea!
