Three comments about a conference for UAE in-house counsel

The In-House Congress United Arab Emirates 2009 will be held in Bur Dubai on 4th March 2009.

From the online notice, three observations struck me.

The first is that the website page states in red print “Note: Registrations for the In-House Congress is not open to non-hosting law firms, recruiters, and consultancies.” If you are not an in-house lawyer, you have to pay to play.

Second, the schedule starts with two plenary sessions, for about 2.5 hours, and then breaks into three consecutive “Practice Area Workshops” of 90 minutes each. Attendees can choose during each workshop period which of two they want to attend. That gives some flexibility to the conference.

My third observation is that Pacific Business Express, the conference coordinator, and the other sponsors recognize that there are enough lawyers in corporations in or near the United Arab Emirates to sustain a conference just for them. (See my post of Nov. 16, 2008: conferences aimed at inside lawyers with 11 references.).
